*Neurodiverse is a term to describe a range of neurological differences. I specialise in working with individuals who might identify with Autism spectrum condition (ASC), Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). I am led by the chosen language of the unique individual.
I typically work with parents and their Neurodiverse* children aged 6-12 across the Brighton-Eastbourne area.
They are struggling with the challenge that their child is withdrawing, deeply unhappy, and the parents are at a loss with how to help.
I help the family to repair and re-emerge for a meaningful life that sparks joy and happiness, empowering the whole families' future.
It's Nice to meet you.
I’m guessing you are here to help a young person in your life. Firstly, well done on seeking help, it’s not always easy to do so.
Please do reach out, even if I’m not the right person for you, I am well connected and can point you in the right direction.
As well as being an experienced therapist for Neurodiverse children and young people, I am lucky to be a mother of two bouncy kids and an auntie to eight wonderful children. When I can get my chance to re-charge you will often find me swimming or head in a book.
I work from my studio in Saltdean, (5 miles east of Brighton) and also offer home visits for children who struggle to leave the house.
The last 15 years working in the field of mental health and neurodiversity has strengthened my dedication in protecting young people’s mental health.
This passion comes after witnessing a large number of children and adults experiencing crisis because their fundamental needs were not met, usually as they did not ‘fit’ into the limited boxed health care offerings and their symptoms were not understood empathetically.
I’m on a mission to prevent the above and provide early intervention therapy that both repairs and empowers families in understanding and expressing their child’s individual needs.
Families often work with me when their child is experiencing burnout from ‘masking’ to please the social norms. This could take show up through withdrawing from previously enjoyed activities or disengagement from family/friends, not enjoying or limited ability to access school and heightened states of anxiety which are debilitating.
I am funded directly by families or can be sourced by local authorities part of families’ Education Other Than at School (EOTAS) or EHCP packages. Please see my testimonials to read some examples of the results.
Meaningful connection that sparks interest and joy
Repair through play the emotions, memories, fears and hopes.
Emerge Empowered for your family’s life and future.
My work is individualised for both parent and child.
It must be meaningful, it must be something that creates curiosity in the child but that feels safe. Lots of the children experiencing burnout are in a trauma state after masking for so long and being exposed to situations that are heightening and pro-longing their anxiety. I meet the child where they are at and build up meaningful connection to allow for repair to take place.
If your child loves certain topics or games, I use this to join their world and build trust. I use tools both from the psychotherapy approach of Dramatherapy and specialist trauma therapy EMDR to aid their recovery. I work both with parent and child, dependent on what the family’s needs are.
If this sounds like your child, please contact me for a complimentary 10 minute call where we can explore the next steps that are right you.
